Hi, I’m Johnny – and I’m probably that cyclist you’ve spotted grinding up Casterton Road heading out of Stamford on a Sunday morning, muttering something about “being nearly home”.
I’ve been cycling in and around Stamford, Lincolnshire for years, and honestly? I don’t think there’s a better patch of countryside to ride in the whole of the East Midlands. From the rolling lanes around Rutland to the quiet roads winding towards Oakham, this area has something for every type of cyclist – whether you’re clipping in for the first time or chasing a new Strava PB.
What I Write About
The Stamford Cycling blog is where I get to share the stuff I genuinely love – and there’s plenty of it. You’ll find:
- Local route guides covering the best rides around Stamford, Rutland and the surrounding Lincolnshire lanes.
- Bike tech and equipment deep dives, including honest reviews of Shimano groupsets, Garmin bike computers, and everything in between.
- Social ride recaps – the good climbs, the café stops, the punctures nobody planned for.
- Beginner tips for anyone just getting started with cycling in the area.
- Safety and maintenance tips so you spend more time riding and less time fixing.
My Cycling Philosophy
I’m not here to tell you cycling has to be competitive or serious. For me, it’s always been about community first. Some of my best memories on the bike have nothing to do with speed – they’re about cracking a joke at the top of a steep climb, or stumbling across a quiet lane you’ve never ridden before just a few miles from home.
That said, I do geek out on kit. I’ve spent far too long comparing Shimano 105 Di2 against Ultegra, debating whether a Garmin Edge 840 is worth the upgrade from an Edge 530 (it is, by the way), and obsessing over tyre pressures in a way that probably isn’t healthy.
